School of Dance

Growing up in a very musical family, Sherrie began piano lessons in the second grade and continued through high school. She served as the accompanist for multiple choir and band solo and ensembles while in high school, gave beginning piano lessons, played piano and organ for her church on a substitute basis and provided the music for multiple weddings and special events.

She graduated from Adrian College where she majored in elementary education with a minor in keyboard and voice.

Beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher and administrator, she has had a very interesting and varied career with positions ranging from Chamber of Commerce Director, to the Director of Development for Central Michigan University, to higher education administration serving as the Vice President for both Northwood University and Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL.

Many of you will recognize Sherrie as the “zoo lady.” While Director of Potter Park Zoo she accompanied the Education Curator and assorted animals to Gladwin Elementary and Intermediate Schools each year for a special assembly.

Additionally, she is often seen hanging around the Studio dropping off or picking up her grand daughter, Shannon, who is a very involved dance and piano student.

Currently Sherrie is a Senior Associate with Zoo Advisors, a consulting firm offering services to zoos and aquariums around the world. She is active in the schools serving on the School Improvement Teams for both Gladwin Elementary and Intermediate Schools, planning classroom parties and volunteering as needed. She accompanies the children’s choir at her church and finds playing the piano for pleasure her very best “stress reliever.”

Sherrie is looking forward to teaching at the Studio this year and sharing her life-long enthusiasm for the piano and music in general with her students.
